How secure is your boat ramp area?

I frequent the Lions Levee boat ramp on pool 2. Nice ramp, lots of parking, well lit. The local police cruz through on a regular basis. Never had any kind of problems leaving the truck parked there.

After about 3 hours of fishing last Saturday morning, my partner realizes he had left his cell phone and wallet sitting on the hood of his car. He had taken the items out of his pockets as he was suiting up for a day of fishing. I was my usual pessimistic self and said something like “Be ready to cancel your credit cards buddy” and headed back to the ramp. Well, to my surprise, both the cell phone and wallet were still sitting there un-touched!

Thought that was a pretty good sign that there are a lot more good folks out there than bad.

It would have been gone if I saw it.

Safe keeping until I could find the owner.

Have your friend try that at Lillidale….

I think your friend was just lucky the wrong kind of person didnt happen to be in the lot that day.

Have locked up the truck and left the window down a few times at the landing. Nothing touched but dont think I want to make it a habit of leaving the windows down.

    What color is your truck?

Launched at the 694 ramp in Fridley a couple years ago and got to inform the only other boat out there that someone had thrown a rock through his truch window while he was out.

Last weekend on my way to Grand Rapids for some duck hunting. I stopped at Mille lacs to Muskie fish for a few hours so I piled over 75 diver decoys into the cab of my truck. I don’t trust the people around that area at all. Just pull into the casino access and look at all the broken glass laying on the ground!

Month ago at Hoksila someone decided they needed the side marker light off my trailer. Took the whole rubber grommet and plug in light.

I personally dont trust any landing, gas station, store…etc. If I plan on being away from the truck for a long period of time I put anything valuable out of sight. I also always have an alarm on my truck and even if its a quick stop at the gas station I alarm it. There are thieves everywhere these days!!

I am with Brian I would have took the items and made sure they were returned

Coming off the river once at lions levee saw a truck with the side window broken out. Think several years ago they had quite a bit of problems but now the police patrol pretty regular and I have not had any problems. Up at Mille Lacs had a snowmoble trailer stolen from the ice house and we were gone about an hour. Would not leave anything out up there.

Your working under the assumption that I would actually tell you where in the truck my keys are……

P.S. I was in your camper last night….

Thieves are becoming more sophisticated. Opener at Federal Dam (Leech Lake) this year was disrupted by a number of boats being rifled through while docked at night. Only high-end rods (Loomis’, Croix’s, etc) and nets were stolen. All electronics were left alone. It is suspected that the thieves realized the graphs had serial numbers, which suggests they were selling the merchandise to the public; probably on the Internet. Needless to say, when I was there last week, I didn’t sleep well with my boat tied up at the dock.

Baby monitors in boats left un-garaged at resorts or hotels gives you a set of ears in the boat all night long.

I have lived in St. Paul for over 10 years now. In that time I’ve lost and had returned to me my wallet and, believe it it not, the title to my car. I’m not much of a pessimist, but I didn’t expect to see either of them again! My wallet was turned into the police (nothing missing) and the title was mailed back to me by a stranger.

Last year at one of the north ML ramps I counted 5 seperate piles of glass in the parking lot.

I’ve been told the locals like to take the air bags out of vehicles. 400$ buys a lot of fire water and meth

My son had the window busted out of his truck at the bemidji access, this Aug. made a big mess. I told him to take anything of value out and leave his window down. When he fishes Bemidji or any other access up there.

Several years ago I fished near a guy who was doing well.He was the only other boat out there. At one point he caught a fairly nice walleye. I saw him lift the lid of a cooler, and I heard the fish thrash among ice.

I yelled over, and he said it was a 26″ – “the biggest fish of the day”. He left shortly after that.

That night he posted (on another website) a report stating the fish was a 29″. He said he released it. I called him on it.

He didn’t deny lying,he just said I was a lousy fisherman and obviously jealous. Then he PM’ed me telling me what I drove and that if I planned on driving it home the next time I went fishing,I’d better not fish there.

He lost his hunting/fishing privelidges shortly after that forassorted violations. It seems there’d been an investigation….That doesn’t really matter to me now, years later.

What does matter is that I keep a little lower profile on the internet, and I try not to urine people off too badly. Ya never know who’s a few cards short of a deck.
