Here’s to hoping for “normalicy”

Thursday afternoon we were discharged from the hospital. It’s been pretty rough at home since then and we just weren’t sure if that was normal for a newborn or not. Well, I guess now we know it’s not. Dominic’s bilirubin levels were high and not coming down like they should. It’s kind of chicken/egg thing with high bilirubin levels, irritability, lethargy and lack of desire to eat.

He’s being treated in time and everything will be ok. However even knowing that it tears your heart out seeing the little guy all hooked up like that. The UV light (blue light) helps to break down the billirubin so it can be urinated out.

As you can imagine his mom is pretty upset. With any luck we’ll be home tomorrow and more “normal”.

    This just sucks.

That sucks, I hope he’s feeling better soon. My two month old was really sick last week and there’s no feeling in the world that compares to the helplessness you feel when an infant is sick.

We’ll pray for your little guy and hope things balance out ASAP.

No one is kidding when they say we just want a healthy baby with 10 fingers and toes. Hope things turn for the better soon. Congratulations on your future fishing partner.

There are a lot of Dads and Moms on this site…it’s tearing our hearts out too. Sounds like the Doctors know what to do. Hang in there.

It puts alump in my throat knowing what all of you are going through, It brings back many memories of what our family went through.
At the same time it also brings a smile to my face knowing that the best of times are ahead for you and your family.
Best wishes and a prayer sent.

Our Son went through the exact same thing. Time and patience is all that’s needed. As well as following the Doctor’s orders. Soon enough, I’m sure your Son will end up a perfect bundle of joy.

I’d like to say my Son ended up ‘normal,’ but anyone who knows my Son will agree he’s far from normal…. To this day I blame my wife for kissing that Blarney stone in Ireland when she was pregnant with William.

All 3 of my boys had no complications, so I cannot relate or give any advice other than be calm and patient for your wife’s sake.

Every parent knows how helpless you feel. From seeing your child battle a little cold to something like this. Prayers sent that things get better and back to normal real soon.

Both of our kids were very Jaundice. Hang in there, the Bili Bed will do its work in no time. Congrats!

My son had jaundice. They sent us home with a bili-bed and we had him on that for a few days. About a week after we were home, the doc sent someone over to check my wife’s c-section incision and take a blood sample for his bilirubin. Within a couple hours, the doctor called and told us to head to the ER. He wasn’t sure what was going on, but he wanted it checked out ASAP.

When we got there, the ER staff discovered that his oxygen saturation was super low. He was breathing very lightly, and basically acting like a premie. And he still had the elevated bilirubin, which also required treatment. That was probably the toughest night my wife and I have ever gone through – exhausted, hungry, and worried sick – with our little boy blindfolded, under the big lights and heaters, with tubes and IVs coming out of everywhere.

I know how it feels, man. Keep your head up as much as you can, and you’ll get through it. The doctors know what they’re doing.

Best of luck! Our little guy went through the same thing in September. Best thing I can tell you is that it’s any easy fix as long as they’re keeping an eye on it. But it tears you heart out having him screaming under those lights and not even being able to pick him up to comfort him. Ollie was born on a Thursday and spent Friday-Tuesday under the lights. They sent us home with a light blanket for a few days, and by then, his liver was up to the task.

It’ll get better!!! Ollie is now 7 weeks old and eating like a champ. He just rolled over for the first time last night

Here’s Ollie chilling in the tanning bed. Just like Dominic!

My little muskie hunter is 7 weeks old, too. When he was born, he was the lucky winner of a 4 day, no expenses paid trip to the beautiful NICU resort due to a whole bunch of problems. It was tough to see him like that, but he’s a regular little monster now.

If it’s not one thing, it’s another. I know it’s tough to see him like that, but jaundice is a very common problem and the doctors these days are really good. Your little guy will poopin’ and cryin’ all around your house in no time. Congrats!
