Menominee River

I recently fished the upper Menominee River in Florence county. Our target fish was walleye but with the unusually cold May temps the bite has been slow. We targeted deep water flats near drop offs or creek mouths. I vertical jigged with ringworms while my partner used a livebait rig. We caught several small male walleyes, many of them still “milking”. A change to crank baits got the attention of some fiesty Northern Pike, the largest being a nice 37incher that tipped the scales at 13#. They gave us a thrill on the light walleye rods. We filleted a couple of 26 inchers and they were delicious. The warmer weather should only improve the fishing.
