Fishing on the Cannon River Chain has been best early and late in the day reports say. On Cannon Lake, one of the lakes,[wide spot]on the Chain,the fishing has been best when the water temps have been on the cooler side. Once the temps rise the fishing seems to get tougher as the bite slows down. This is where the early and later hours of the day come into play as of lower temps at those times of the day.
Two different styles of fishing have come into play here. One is a live bait bite. Slowly dragging a jig and leech combo over the humps in the river/lake has been producing walleyes. Again “slowly” is the key. For the crappie and sunfish anglers you will find your favorite species in shallow “early” in the day and look out deeper as the day goes on. Live bait and/or jigs will work.
The 2nd. presentation that has been catching eyes is pulling Raps with the long original style raps producing the best. But speed is the key here. Speeds of 3- 3 1/2 mph in 5-6 ft. of water are catching the most fish.
Two completely different presentations yet both are catching fish. Humps, flats, and don’t forget the inlets and outlets in your areas to fish.
