Bass and Muskies dominate the best fishing opportunities on Leech Lake this past week. Bass anglers are very happy with the action and size of fish caught from Steamboat, Sucker and Boy Bays. Look to the edge’s of the WildRice Beds and in the reeds for the most aggressive fish. Jawbreaker spoons or Jungle Jigs tipped with Power Craws account for most of the fish with some fish being taken on Spinnerbaits in the pencil reeds.

Muskies have been good again this week with many mid 40″ class fish reported caught and released. The cabbage beds of Agency Bay, Sucker Bay and Portage Bay Two Points gave up the greatest number of fish. Most anglers choosing to throw in-line Bucktails or topwater and it’s working. Most anglers fishing fast and looking to find the active fish vs. slow presentations and working specific fish. Stay on the move and fish quickly for best results. The great news for anglers is that the fish have been active throughout the day so some great opportunities to hook up with a big one anytime!

Walleye action remains slower with best results in the twilight hours pulling live bait rigs off Sand Point in 11-13′ of water. Crawlers or leech’s the choice. You will catch some perch too while using this presentation. Other areas such as Pine Point, Sugar Point turning on during twilight as well, yet good catch’s of fish are coming on Frenzy Crankbaits or Shad Raps.

Labor Day is not suppose to be laborious, but with some effort you can have some great fishing on Leech Lake.
