What is the span? I’ll run it on the span chart.

    American Wood Council (AWC)
    2 x 4 16″o.c.
SPF – stud grade (worst case) Typical Home Depot lumber.
    Roof rafter / Snow load

    Max span 7′-1″

So you are good to go.

For the little difference in price I would buy 2×6 and rip 2″ to nothing off, that will give you enough slope to let water run off, the rest of the year.

Good plan if you can get straight material and you’re good with a circular saw.
    I wouldn’t recommend it to a novice.

You would be better off just adding an additional plate to the high side.

If you throw a piece of EPDM on the roof, it won’t matter if its pitched or not.
You can get a piece relatively cheap at ABC Supply.
