I just purchased a used 24 volt auto-pilot. My question is are they all 12 or 24 volt and if I hook it up only to 12 volt will I lose anything other than duration?
Thanks,
Everett

If its a 24V motor you need to wire it to two batteries. Using only one could damage both the motor and battery.
So if you have to use 2 batteries, why do they call them 12/24 volt? That is a little confusing.

Never heard of a motor called a 12/24V volt?? Unless its a Vantage or Genesis motor, those motors use 12V to lift them out of the water but the propeller runs on 24V. Ive never owned an Auto-Pilot but that motor could also use 12v to turn the motor but needs 24v for the propeller.

You need to wire the 2 – 12 volt batteries together to produce 24 volts. Pos on Batt #1 to Neg on Batt #2. Then Neg on Batt #1 to motor and Pos on Batt #2 to motor.

I think some of the plugs say 12/24 volt (referring to the plug), but you have to match the battery(s) to the motor requirements.
Not sure if they are made anymore but I used to have an Evinrude 12/24 troller. You’d get 12v on one side and if you flipped a switch you’d get 24v on the other side. But the batteries still had to be wired as if it were a straight 24v system.
Everett – How many ounds of thrust is the motor? Do you know what year the motor is?

I have a MK that has the 12/24 switch as well. It is about 5 years old. You definetly loose some top end running 12V only
