Is there some invisible line where people on opposite sides think that supper and dinner are the same thing or that lunch and dinner are the same thing? To me dinner is eaten in the middle of the day and supper at night.
I try to avoid using the word dinner to not mix people up.Looks fantastic by the way.
October 23, 2018 at 5:45 pm #1805410That looks delicious. I would be jealous but I’m currently grilling up some wood duck breasts and bacon mac and cheese
October 23, 2018 at 7:14 pm #1805419Dictionary.com confirms, “dinner” doesn’t necessarily refer to a specific time of day. It simply means the main meal of the day. “Supper,” however, stems from the Old French word “souper,” meaning “evening meal.”
When I was growing up, it was always supper.. at home. If we went somewhere other than our own kitchen table, it was dinner…. to further confuse things, we only ate lunch at noon… at home or the “diner”…
BTW that looks terrific , no matter what you call, just don’t call me late.

This was how it was when I grew up as well. Although we usually only got lunch in the afternoon if we were bailing hay. If we were shelling corn all day, we got lunch in the morning and the afternoon.
October 25, 2018 at 5:50 pm #1805829Ok, Ill chime in too. Breakfast, lunch, supper, dinner is when I have time, in my EMS career. On the farm during harvest its also when u can make or find time. Weather, logistics, etc dictate this. No set breaks in my life.
