Whats not to love about spring? The grass is greening, leaves are budding, and most importantly, turkey season!! The season is well under way here in Wisconsin with only a couple weeks left. The Chasin’ the Dream crew has already put a couple nice birds on the ground. So far, hunting this year has had its ups and downs. With an early spring, the woods has really greened up fast which has made for limited visibility and the luck of a few gobblers to just merely slip away. On the flip side, we had an easy winter which has kept bird numbers strong, and a good crop of two year old birds has helped make this season one that will not soon be forgotten.

Another thing that I can’t stress enough is to get your minerals out now if you haven’t already. Getting them out early will ensure that the deer in your area will get the full benefit from them. Does need the minerals as they will be starting to have fawns in just a few short weeks, and bucks will need all that they can in their reserves if you want them to reach their full genetic potential. When looking for a mineral, it is very important to choose wisely and take the time to do a little research. Many companies in the market today have products with high amounts of salt and little of the actual minerals that the deer actually need. This is done because salt is cheap and that is what the deer are coming to eat, but it is important to find a mineral brand that has enough salt to attract the deer, but at the same time has the right balance of minerals in it. A few of my personal favorites are Antler Kings Trophy Deer Mineral, Monster Raxx Trophy Minerals, and Hunters Specialties Vita-Rack 26. When putting these minerals out, make sure that you replenish them about once every month or two as deer will have heavy consumption throughout the spring and summer. This time of year is also a great time to get stands hung and shooting lanes cut to allow the deer maximum time to get used to them. Make sure to stay tuned as we post pictures of antler development throughout the spring and summer as well as sharing plenty of hunting tips to prepare for the upcoming season.
