Ice Report – Bayport – 1 Dec

I checked the ice at Bayport this morning. All the wind the last few days blew the ice around from Bayport down to the Hudson Swing Bridge. There is a lot of open water south of Clydes. The ice at Bayport is very thin – one plunk of my spud went right through along the shoreline. There are a lot of open leads that have skimmed over so that you have a mix of ice thickness (thin and thinner). As much as I want to ice fish I have a feeling it will be a while yet. Standing along the shore you could hear the ice grinding and groaning. It was either the ice groaning or me – I’m not sure which – I got the bug bad. The Ice Fishing Show starts Friday at St Paul River Centre I guess I can go spend some more money getting ready for first ice.
