Made it to Clear Lake Friday afternoon. Setup camp and got on the water around 3:30. We had crawlers, leechs and minnows. Put all out to give them what they wanted. Right away the small eyes were taking minnows and leechs. Around 4 the first keeper eye, a 16 1/2″. A short time later a 18″. Then the cats came in and started taking crawlers, we ended up with 4 cats between 16″ to 19″. Picked up 2 large yellows, and right when we were going to head in we got another 17″ eye.
Sat… Up at 5 and on the lake early. One other truck in the parking lot. Tried the same thing as Friday, for us not much going early, did get 2 more big yellows. The bite for us really didn’t start till all the boaters got going and then we started to catch fish again. Landed a 15″ eye, and 3 more cats. The crawlers and leechs worked early in the day, and the minnows were working better later in the afternoon. As warm as the temp. was it was nice on the lake. A great couple days of fishing!!

Nice report. What kind of depths were the active fish in? Were you drifting, trolling or anchored? Slips, rigs, jigs? Thanks.

    Rugbystar,
We were fishing rocky ref areas. We anchored in 5 f.o.w. and fished in 7 to 8 f.o.w. and used slip bobbers, yellow & orange floating worm harness, and spinner rigs. We just cast the harness & rigs past the ref and “slooowly” brought them into the rocks and bingo!!! The slip bobbers we pitched past the ref the same way, and brought them back to the hump. Alot of guys were using boards in 12 f.o.w…. We tried that for awhile but weren’t having any luck so we went back to the rocks and got back on the bite. I lost track of how many eyes from 9″ to 12″ we landed. Water temp. was 79.7 to 80 deg.

    Tight lines to all

Thanks Frank! I’ll post a report next week, I’ll be there 24th-26th for a reunion. Plan is to fish morning and evening bites each day.
