    Another rainbow.
They do take many different shades, which can be any time if the year just as your bag shows.

Sure is a nice change to get a fish that fights as hard as trout when ice fishing.

Thanks ! We’ve got a few this year that are so much darker than others. Wasn’t sure if maybe we got a brook in the mix. They are so damn fun to catch. It just seemed fatter and a bit shorter than the rest.

Like everyone has indicated it is a rainbow and it appears to have an adipose fin clipped. Are hatchery brood culls stocked in the water you were fishing?

Oh the ol Foster pond! They put brookies in there 5 or so years ago but I’m sure they all gone now. I’ll get out there later this year so save some for me!

Speaking of Trout anyone have any luck out Big Watab this winter? Some decent Browns mixed in with the Rainbows out there and the sight fishing can be a blast!

Brook trout have bright white stripes on their fins

A super quick way to tell is whether or not the fish has black spots. Fish in the char family don’t have them (includes brook trout).
