Boat Dock Bruiser

Taking a long weekend to fish smallies at our cabin in N. Minnesota. Walking down to get in the boat, I peered into the water and saw a large fish sitting on bottom in the shade of the boat lift. Grabbing my hair jig rod, I lowered a bait to tempt her…and she promptly ate it! After a frantic struggle, I scooped her into the net…all 30.5” of her. My longest walleye ever. Funny, because after all these years of chasing these things around the lake, this happens basically at our doorstep. Thought I’d share the story and pic.

Haha what an odd place for a big walleye to inhabit. Obviously bass do but can’t say I’ve heard of a walleye under a dock.

gumruis, what’s even more strange is that this walleye was sitting smack-dab in the middle of a smallmouth bed and the male smallmouth was swimming around her, looking kinda disturbed.

The fish was promptly released after the photo btw. I failed to mention that in my original post.

That is cool! What a memory.

Guess you disproved the old theory – “the fishing is always better on the other side of the lake.”

    Nice work

No doubt an encounter you will never forget the rest of your life…and probably never see again!

Wow, you broke the 30” mark without even getting into a boat. applause
