7.5 wooded acres that butts up to Mille Lacs… yeah, I am sure the state couldn’t sell that and collect taxes on it. Such a hassle. coffee

So now the tribes don’t need to buy the land, we’ll just give it to them.
I guess the DNR couldn’t come up with a better use for the land, like say a new boat access.
And I guess the state has enough money that they wouldn’t want to put it up for public auction.

This would be just the start. They want the south shore. Basically just draw a line from casino to Isle Bay.

Another bill brought forward by metro area legislators from the metro area that has nothing to do with their districts.

I wonder if I could get my state reps to right up a bill to give me that parcel for free?

At what point will they be satisfied? The natives. The whole state? half etc… doesn’t seem like we will ever be able to move on.

Are we even sure that its the tribes pushing for this in the first place? I dont think it is. Its the idiots in office right now.

Our lt. Governor is a self proclaimed native American activist.
The tribes and the government are working together to obviously aquire a much as possible.

Mary Kunesh is behind both of the most recent bills. Call and email her:
651-296-4334 or [email protected]. Also email Commissioner Sarah Strommen [email protected] as she has significant sway over this.

Of course this is all predicated that these ladies have autonomy to make their own decisions, and not that they are beholden to their party and therefore the tribes.

I wonder if I could get my state reps to right up a bill to give me that parcel for free?

I think we need some outstate reps to draw up some bills to donate parts of the cities, start with the Governor’s Mansion and every piece of public land in Kunesh’s district…

Are we even sure that its the tribes pushing for this in the first place?

Yes, because nothing gets done in this state without the tribe’s blessing. And it applies to both parties.

    Just say no.
Very simple concept. Let them haul it into court.

Speaking of court, maybe the taxpayers should file suit against the legislature for incompetence & dereliction of duty.

If i’m not mistaken they take some sort of oath to protect the citizens and taxpayers of Minnesota.

I completely understand that but how do we know who is actually behind doing these things? Its probably just some feel good thing that always seems to happen.

I’m not sure if the State is the same as most cities, but I know many cities need to hold open public offerings for situations like this.
Is there some type of law that they are breaking?

I would imagine if a legislator wrote a bill to give 7.5 acres of land to his buddy, he could land in hot water…? I don’t see a difference. Giving land to a sovereign nation.. because ? Either we give it all back or we don’t. It’s like a kid, give them one M&M out of the sharing size bag and see what happens. coffee

So these are lawmakers. They make laws. If they are breaking a law they just change the law. A good way to judge a politician is if they were stupid enough to break a law instead of just changing it. The second part of the proposed bill allows them to skip the public sale of the property as required by law currently.

Imagine if that buddy had an old contract that gave him that land it’d be a different story.

Oh that’s right, there is an old one, and that’s why we’re here.

I’m not for it but I’m just saying there’s precedent, any other comparisons are off base imo

Not sure what contract you are referring to.
Where in any of the treaties does it say anything about land?

I forgot! Whatever that name is now…

Just as I was starting to become less of a reclusive river rat in recent years fishing more lakes, Minnesota starts a freshwater garage sale

It’s only a sale if they collect money for it…

It’s kow towing to people and groups who want to change history. If you change the name of every street, county, city that was named for a slave owner you will be a very busy guy. Worry about the history that will be made tomorrow not about the history of what happened yesterday.
