I want to go smallie fishing mid July on Chequamegon Bay. Option A; bring my own boat and camp, Option B; hire a guide for a day or I could do both. Any suggestions as to lodging, guides, depths to fish. I know its early but resorts fill up etc.

I have a Cabin in NW WI and fish the Bay often. It is a huge body of water and is very susceptible to weather. If you get a 20mph wind it may not be fishable for days due to water clarity issues. I would highly recommend getting a hold of a guide or calling Anglers All or the bait shop in Washburn. Always have a backup plan when going to the the bay a 15 mph wind may make it unfishable. Fortunately there are many lakes with smallies in the area. Lake Owen, The Pike Chain , Gile Flowage, Lake Namekagon to name a few. I only fish it in May and early June.
