    My dad served in WWII. He was trained as an infantryman and when he got to the Philippines he was “selected” to be a combat field medic. shock
    He got to the rank of staff sergeant so I don’t know if that kept him off the battlefield any. He didn’t talk much about the fighting just some anecdotal stories. He would start watching some WWII movies but usually would have to shut it off after a while. When WWII ended he went to Korea to finish up his stint. He must have been there in the winter because he had some green winter boots that he called his “Koreans”.
