2190 top speed/rpm issues

  • #2206729

I have read multiple posts about this and with prop size. I however have a 2016 2190 saltwater 15-20 pitch on my boat. I cannot even get to 51mph. I am looking for any suggestions on how i can get better top end speed. most times I am running at 5400 rpm and cannot get any higher. I also have a lot of Porpoise if i try to go any faster, so most times im running 46-48mph is all. I also have trim tabs that i use almost everytime i go out due to the porpoise. Any help would be great.

Your goal should be 58 to 6000 rpms. Guessing a 18 salt will get you very close to that.

Be careful running at only 5400 rpm. When I bought my wx2100 the guy put on a 3 blade with way too much pitch. I started to make oil. Dropped a 4 blade 19″ pitch on it and that works great. No more making oil.

Any trim tab use will push more of the bow into the water losing speed because of the extra resistance. You will also lose rpm with that speed. Easiest thing to try with the porpoising is moving some of the weight in the boat around

So my cavitation plate is 2 1/2 inches above the bottom of the boat. I was told that would be better for top speed, yet I cannot get top speed. Does anyone know on your 2190 where the motor sits? I did talk to a guy and he said that is where I am getting purpoising from. He recommended setting it down 2 inches on the jack plate. Let me know your thoughts/opinions on this and thanks for the information you have given already.

Set it at 1 3/4″ to start for a three blade. 2 1/2″ would be a more appropriate starting height for a Bravo prop. Also you are going to have to pitch down as suggested by Dean, and I don’t think a 19″ will get you there, probably a 18″ as suggested.
I think most of those boats were in the 53-54 mph tops.

I have attached a picture of where my motor sits in the water. I showed this to a mechanic and he said wow, you need to lift it. I will try this weekend to lift it. I have a yamaha jack plate, does anyone know if you for sure how to slide it up? is it just the 2 bolts on each side? Thanks for all your help so far.

Looks like you need to raise it. That is a set back plate, not a jack plate. You will have to raise the motor on the plate, but after a closer look you are already in the 3rd hole from top. I had a 2016 wx2060 with the 250 sho, and I had all of your problems. The motor was in the 2nd hole from top, moved to the 3rd hole from top, proposing got much better. Then went with a 20″ Bravo 1 4 blade and that did the trick. I was turning 5900rpm and running 53mph with full load. I moved to a 2190 in 2018, that boat had the Atlas jackplate and trim tabs. It was an absolute beast. I was running the sds20 prop that came with boat. Awesome setup. You might give the boys at Skeeter Boat Center a call as well.
