    Not pretty tonight. 20-30 mph winds and snow. But you can’t shoot them from the couch.

    There was no chance I was going to sit in a tree tonight. Quiet on deer but I was visited by a grouse at 8 ft and a second at 12 ft.

    First sit of the year for me tonight. Jumped a small 6 walking in right in front of my stand. Hope this rain holds.

    On the ground for first hunt of 2019. Same spot as last year’s first hunt. Only took 35 minutes for a nice 9 point at 7 yards. We’ll see how it goes tonight. I’m pickier this year.

    2 spikes and a Fawn last night. Amazing out right now. Scrape near my stand got raked this morning. In one of my fav pinch points. The “Meat” tree.

    Saw 4 does, 2 little bucks. Little 4 came in, made a scrape 11 yds away. Fun to watch. Then a “catch n release” shot…..

    I’m solo in the stand tonight. I’ll be bringing 4 kids out for youth tomorrow am. 2 of mine, and 2 friends that have never hunted. Good luck to all the hunters, youth especially!

    Had this nice one up around the office starting around 4 today. Haven’t seen his Daddy since this summer so hoping to get a glimpse in the next few weeks.

    Got the kids out promptly this am. Right after first light, 4 wheelers n chainsaws 150 yds away. Pretty bummed. Took a early lunch break, headed out to a new spot, other neighbor is now site-ing his 37th rifle. Don’t have any other spots for a group and a wsw wind……

    I didn’t make it up a tree hunting this weekend, but this was the view from our friends’ hotel room in Wisconsin Dells. Wouldn’t you know, a doe showed up with a nice eight point right behind her. Sorry I couldn’t get a better shot through the window glass-they eventually stopped behind the second pine from the right. Beginning stages of the RUT has begun!

    Boy got his first deer Thursday evening. Had a doe, fawn, and buck 25 yards from the stand. He got away with a lot of movement, he was way lucky. He must have pulled the shot, got him in the neck, spined him. Dropped like a ton of $hit. Had to cut his wind pipe. But at least we didn’t have to track it. Lots of learning to do, but got the monkey off his back on the first day! I’m way proud, and his mother is even prouder. She heard the shot from the house, and was blowing up my phone .333 seconds later.

    Congrats. Its a pretty special time when they take their first deer. I may have teared up a little when my 3 boys all got their firsts.

    Son got his best buck to date Friday of the youth hunt…super exciting for both of us…passed a few deer before making the call on this one…

    Sitting in the ground tonight, sat here last night and had a doe come through just didn’t give me the shot I wanted. Hoping with the overcast skies they move earlier tonight.

    Decided to take a break from working on the garage today. Just over an hour hike in the hills but I finally made it. It will have to be big to take a shot because no matter how you do it getting deer out of this will be a LOT of work! Pic from the way in…
