200 HO Evinrude G2 vs. 200 Evinrude G2

  • #1713359

I currently run an Evinrude 200 HO E-tec G2 on a 2009 Stratos 385 XF. Thinking of buying a new 2018 Ranger 1880 MS. They only offer the 200 E-etc G2 not the HO 200 in max hp. Would I be disappointed in the torque and top end speed on the new boat? I feel like I am taking a step back in engines? Please let me know if I am right or wrong in my thinking…

Sales people not much help when discussing this issue…go figure.

    Thanks!

I run the 385 as well with a 200ho. If you do go with the 1880 let me know how they compare as far as the ride. I am sure the standard 200 would have plenty of low end torque to pop the 1880 up. As you know the 200HO on the 385 gets up on plane in maybe 3 seconds and is a beast. Even though the 200 is a smaller block than the HO, I would guess it still would be quicker than the 4 strokes.

From my understanding the HO model is programmed and tuned to deliver 6-8% more HP than the non-HO model.

They are different blocks. The HO is a 3.4L, and the non HO is a 2.7L. I’m sure the HO will have more torque. That being said several people run that hull with a 150 and 175 and I haven’t read where anyone complained that they were underpowered. I would guess with the 200 top speed would be 53-54 mph

From my understanding the HO model is programmed and tuned to deliver 6-8% more HP than the non-HO model.

Thanks, took another look at the fair and the small looks so much smaller than the big block. I have been told no difference, but not sure I totally buy what they are selling!

Going to stay with what I have at this time!!

I believe Kirt Hedquist has a G2 on his boat. Hopefully he will chime in!
