I run on the water with it parallel. No issues with it. Locks in very nicely.
If driving on trailer, I do take it off and put it on the floor of the boat.

In regards to FFS and muskies, I have the crazy take that if you’re out in the open water basin without it, you’re fishing unethically.
Most fish aren’t down deep, but some are, especially as you get out of June. If you’re just trolling the 40 ft basin with a Headlock down 10-15′, nothing is stopping a charged up fish coming from 35 ft. However, if you’re using FFS and you’re educated on barotrauma, you aren’t casting at that fish 35 ft down. In fact, pretty much everyone I know just sets the max depth to 15 and ignores anything down deep.
I have fished this way, but my favorite is still casting bucktails in shallow. I usually have the FFS pole in while I do it and I get a heads up if something is hot on the bait halfway to the boat which is pretty cool. Especially since another 50% of those fish don’t come close enough to be seen by eye. Gives awesome data to know if a spot is good or not that I otherwise would not have had.
I use it all the time for work. I’m in Data Analytics, and finding the right syntax for writing formulas and engineering data pipes and all that can be complicated. ChatGPT makes it quite a bit easier.
Even when it’s a bit off, it puts me on the right path.

Saw a ton, only got 1 44″ though. Nice weekend all the same.Buddy, you’ve got the best profile pic I’ve ever seen! Love that pooch!
Thanks man. Sadly lost him in October. Miss him every day. Training a new pup now though. Couldn’t take not having a dog.
As far as the FFS convo, I’m more worried about stocking than FFS.
I’ve been to Tomahawk a number of times. Don’t think you can go wrong there.
The only downside is if you want better fishing you may put some miles on getting out of the clearer water, but fish can still be found nearby. If the goal is more family focused I’d say it’s worth it. Great beach and cabins. Awesome marina.
I’ll be on Vermilion again this weekend. Hoping the stable weather helps me out.
Have a tube or a suick ready for a cast back. Otherwise come back later.
I lucked into one 3 years ago. So thankful I jumped at the opp.
Heading up there tonight and will be there through next weekend. I’ll hit you back in a couple days.
I primarily fish Frazer Bay (where my place is) and East throughout Big Bay if the wind allows.
I love Goldens and I have a Field Golden that I got from Rosewood Goldens in Clear Lake WI. All the dogs have great lines and this breeder was amazing during my process on picking out my pup and he still answers any questions I have.
I got one from Rosewood 10 years ago as well. Been a great buddy. I don’t hunt, but he definitely had the drive to retrieve from the day we brought him home. Tons of ball in the yard and swimming at the lake gets his energy out and keeps him happy.
Nice! I love getting on the shallow walleyes. Probably going to try that for the first time in a couple months next week. Unless my musky addiction continues to take over.
Double 10 bucktails are good in shallow. Beavers, Husky Medussas, and Magnum Bulldawgs if you’re deeper.
Don’t need to get fancy on colors. White, Black, Black/Silver will get you plenty of action.
Slip Bobbers will work on top of reefs, otherwise I also pull spinners that time of year off the edges of the breaks.
Tons of great water right outside Pike Bay. I have a place in Frazer, and I spend quite a bit of time in Big Bay when I’m able to. Mostly muskies for me this time of year, but come late August into Labor Day I work Walleyes back in.
It’s been a grind for me on Vermilion too. I’ll time it right eventually though. This whole full time job thing just gets in the way.
Seeing plenty, just need to get a biter.
What DaveB said. I’m doing well with slip bobbers on top of humps. Jerkbaits on rocky shorelines are getting Smallies, and some muskies are still hanging in the shallow bays.
Fishing Walleyes and Smallies all day tomorrow, then Muskies all day Saturday. Should be a nice time.
I’ve been finding them more in mid depths on reefs the last couple days. Ultra shallow hasn’t done much for me, and I haven’t tried deep really at all yet.
I have a Livescope, and buy conservation licenses. I’m in it to have fun, catch and release 99% of the time, and learn new tactics/spots and all that.
If the issue is people decimating fish populations, that’s a human behavior and human choice issue. Not the technology.
I’d completely be on board with low bag limits.
There’s a few around Frazer Bay. I’ve taken yesterday and today off. I plan on being out tomorrow again.
I’ve done well with all of them honestly. Moxies and Puls’r is usually what I drift to.
I’ve hardly had color matter.
Sounds like a great time!
My group got 2 up to 19″ over the weekend. Most still 10-15″ though. Still fun. Probably going to pivot to Smallmouth soon.
Yeah I’d imagine Pike is good right now. In fact, my dock has actually been the best spot for size (still Frazer). So shallow seems to be the ticket.
Finding small ones around Frazer Bay. Any depth from 12-30 has worked. Jigs if they’re schooled, trolling a spinner if scattered.
Rainbows have worked well as bait.
I don’t care if someone fishes my dock. If I’m out there, I just wave and ask how it’s going. I like talking with other anglers so I kind of enjoy seeing some come by.
Out front of my cabin, about 1/2 mile below stony point.
Is that the old Stony Point Resort? Used to stay there all the time as a kid.
I don’t recommend using the ram mount to scotty. I tried when my buddy visited me last year with his livescope. Did not work great at all.
Bought my own unit this year and am putting tracks on the boat. Much sturdier.
