Well, there was about 30 men at this 2nd “Deep C” meeting and I liked what I saw. Actually, the GM Lodge was a bit on the tight side and the following monthly meetings may be moved to a church in Ham Lake; so there’s more room for seminars and demonstrations.

I’ll pass along a few points from last night’s meeting.

“Deep C” is a program ministry of Fishing For Life. The main mission is to serve youth, family and community through fishing and outdoor programs.

Some fellows there last night were actually working out the details to take about 70 disadvantaged youth out on a Monticello lake today so they can enjoy an ice fishing experience!

If you’re interested in organizing a “home church” fishing and Bible study fellowship group, contact “Deep C” for help. If you don’t have a “home church” and want to benefit from participating, they can help you with that, too.

There will be a summer fishing league, tournaments, fishing clinics, Fall weekend fishing retreat and opportunities to help Fishing For Life during its scheduled lake events as well.

    I was impressed!

I have not heard. I have heard they’re trying to organize tournaments and additional events throughout the summer. I’ll learn more tonight and pass along the info.

I wouldn’t be suprised if the carb needs done again. That is if you don’t run it dry every spring. Leaving fuel in the system while sitting for long periods is tough on the jets. Jason brings good points as well.

The only year my 9 year old SM was stored with a dry fuel tank, the next winter the carb leaked since a gasket dried out. The leak stopped on its own in a day. Now, I leave fuel and Stabil the fuel over summer and start once a month or so.

Been burning unleaded fuel in three 20-30 year old Coleman lanterns for years. Works great.

    interceptor,
What type shelter did you end up getting?

Well, if you’re going to invest that much in a sleeper house, you won’t be able to use the trailer for other uses, like hauling dirt, lumber, furniture, etc etc. That’s the idea behind owning an ALL-SEASON ATT Northlander.

Nope, I had the opportunity to use one last year but haven’t saved up enough to buy one yet.

I’ve always done the SeaFoam thing to my auger. After 9 years I finally replaced the spark plug a couple days ago. The old one didn’t look too bad, but it was taking a few extra pulls to get it started. Now that I replaced the plug, she fires right up like she did when she was new.

I just replaced the 9 year old plug on my LazerMag, too, for the same reason and it’s back to just like new.

Another vote for a Canvas Craft insulated shelter kit for the Otter sled.

    You’re welcome.

And, as for traveling and travel covers, I found leaving the back-to-back seats setup in the shelter works well when folding up, too. The framework and canvas rests on the seats and you can still access inside the sled when it’s folded up. Canvas Craft has extra deep travel covers as well. You can tell here that the 1st sled is a bit taller and has the back-to-back seats left in place when traveling and the 2nd shorter sled does not. Both ways work out well.

Here’s a couple of seating configurations we’ve found to work well.

The deluxe back-to-back seats rest on the Otter tub walls and each person faces a door, two on each side.

Another seating arrangement we played with, for two anglers who want mega room in the shelter, is fishing two holes sideways. To experiment and save a few bucks not buying back-to-back seats, we quickly built a wood table that rests across the Otter tub to hold gear or snacks and we found a couple of folding chairs in the shed. This way, a heater could also sit inside the Otter tub right in the middle of the shelter and a door is on the side of each angler; which eliminates stepping over holes and depthfinders to get out.

Both seating arrangements have their advantages.

And, no, equipped with the NorpacR2 insulated canvas, there’s no condensation dripping down inside during cold weather.

Yup, been there done that, ah, foot in the hole thing. My oldest was about six when every 30 seconds I’d remind him, “watch out for the holes”. The old, “yea, yea, yea, dad”. Just got the portable set up and I hear the swish and then footsteps toward the house. “Ah, dad, we have a problem here”. But, I always packed double of everything so, we were good to go. Fun times for sure!

I have the VS820 this season and love it. Last year I used the VS825C and found that the color camera needs more light than the B&W in order to produce a quality picture. Also, I fish in golden stained water and the color camera, while working perfectly, does produce a golden stained contrast on the screen because the water is stained. That’s not the camera’s fault, just the water quality. So, the color camera doesn’t benefit me much.

And, I enjoy the daylight viewable screen when scouting around. I enjoy using the VS820 and do think it’s the top dog of cameras right now.

you can still get the original canvas otter skin houses from canvascraft.

If anyone’s gonna do that, might as well go Canvas Craft Norpac.

The Otter Village isn’t available any longer. I’d look at the Canvas Craft double-flip with Norpac. Like another said, it’s only about 30 seconds to flip open the other side. It might be a matter of fishing on the other side to get into the school, too. Wouldn’t have to reset a single flip if that’s the case. Fshing two guys or with kids is way nicer with a double-flip. And, they’re on an Otter sled.

If you’re handy with metal work, you could fabricate a holder for an Otter Ice Shield. Now, I have the Otter Monster Box and Ice Shield that slides on but, back then, this worked slick.

I was at White Bear Lake watching, and James, your review translates perfectly to what you were experiencing and talking about on the lake.

And, yes, James was asking people, if he was being fair with all the products.

Bass Chaser, did you go out onto the lake?

Marcum’s VX-1 is a great entry level flasher. GM in Blaine had half dozen on its shelf last SUnday. GM also accepts competitor’s coupon, too. Big C has $20 off coupons online, I believe. I think you get the idea

That’s the cool thing about hauling your stuff on the ATV, like in a Monster Box. Nothing bounces around in the sled, you can haul your ATV and all the gear right where it is, loaded and ready. Unload the ATV, hook-up the house and go. The Monster Box is even lockable if you stop to grab a bite to eat somewhere.

    Dan,
I don’t think that’ll be any more work than a regular flip-over on a sled.

Once the shelter folds up across the front, a “boot”, like what you would see on a pontoon or boat canopy, can be zipped around it to protect the shelter when folded up. Quite a neat idea. That’s why I’m considering one. I guess Canvas Craft already has orders just from its 1st appearance at the show. I think I’ll stop in to check it out some more.

Canvas Craft said they’re working to add it to its website. They did send me a couple of pictures, however. I lost the brochure and wil stop to pick another up this week. Here’s what it looks like.

No link. It’s not on the website yet. It was a brand new concept and they just finished building it that week. The show price was $2995
