After several successful trips to South Dakota over the past three years, usually resulting in a few walleyes to bring home (among the other species we have targeted) to share with my mother. Mom (Peggy Bredvold of Springfield, MN) is 93. We couldn’t remember the last time she had been fishing in a boat. After talking with our friend, Joe Honer, from Eden, SD, we arranged for a half day trip for mom, my daughter, Gretel Stern, & me. Mom started out hot with a 19″ walleye lost at the boat, and then proceeded to put on a clinic. She caught around 20 walleyes in the 14″-18″ range. She added a couple of decent perch, too. Gretel & I were able to catch 5-10 walleyes each, and we, too, added a couple of perch. Mom thoroughly enjoyed the trip, which was pleasantly broken up with a couple of casino stops when we needed a break from driving.

Glad your hear your mom could join you, fishing with family is always great. And she sounds like she is a real fishergal landing all of those ‘eyes.

Thanks for posting that report. It is really cool to hear that your 93 year old Mother is out fishing, and fishing well. And great job on including the pictures.
What lake did you fish on?

September 11, 2014 at 12:17 pm #1453787That’s good stuff. I just took my mom out a few weeks ago and she acts like she’s 5 when reeling in fish. Hilarious. Good times.
September 11, 2014 at 5:49 pm #1453894We fished on Pyus. You need a reservation license, which you can get on-line. It’s good for all year. I returned the following week, and we couldn’t find an eye, but we did land some nice perch. We had to fish on Lilly. Lake south of Webster & on Opitz to find any walleyes. Nothing big, but plenty of action.
Sorry I am responding so slowly. I have been running around canning tomatoes, drying apples, and doing some family things.
