The catfish in the Fargo area of the Red River have started to spawn or at least have started moving to there spawning area’s. Male catfish are almost nonexistent right now as they have there minds on other things besides eating.

The key right now to catching fish with any consistancy at all is water coming into the river. Look for a ditch or culvert with water coming into the river. These areas wash food into the river for all kinds of fish and the cats are there also. We are still catching a few fish in snags but the ditches are producing more fish.

Although the fishing is slow through the upper and mid-sections of the Red, The lower Red continues to produce numbers of the hogs the Red is known for. I fished the Lockport area last week with a couple of friends and in about 10 hours of fishing we caught about 30 catfish ranging in size from 8-21 lbs.

The most consistent fishing during the day remains close to the dam. Fish were coming from a wide area and anyone fishing south of Cats on the Red was catching fish. There just is no other place like this!
