Has anybody traveled across North Dakota on Hwy 281? I need to travel across the top but am wondering if dropping down to Hwy 2 would be a better road?
I will be towing a 28′ camper if that matters.
Thanks

Where are you coming from and headed to? 281 goes north and south while Highway 2 goes east and west.
international Falls Mn to Portal North Dakota. Pretty sure I saw 281 on the map, maybe not.
You would want to take hiway 5 across the top if your entering the state north of Grand Forks,I travel the road from Cavalier to Dunsieth often, good road.If you enter the state at Grand Forks take hiway 2 west of Minot to hiway 52 and head north, even better roads.
281 basically travels N/S as mentioned so that wouldn’t be your road. I’d probably drop down to Bemidji and take highway 2 across – 4 lane road all the way and more services. Taking #5 all the way across the state is a pretty long 2-lane haul with not much civilization, unless that’s what you’re looking for.
Portal is a long way out there. Couple cool places to check out in the Turtle Mountains area (Bottineau) or Pembina Gorge (Walhalla) if you’re looking for sightseeing.

Thank you. Hwy 5 worked great.
We see what you were up to now
