I have heard that the Minnesota river has a great cat fish bite is there any where from shore that is an easy place to get to where i can just drive up and throw a line in?

How far are you willing to drive? Plenty of good shore fishing around the Mankato/St. Peter area.

Blackdog Road runs from Highway 77 to 35W and you can find plenty of spots to pull off and shore fish. Also, Fort Snelling park offers a lot of trails and shore fishing spots, but I have never been there myself.
