My son-in-law Jon and I took the opportunity to go out on Rice Lake while the weather was still cold enough for travel across the lake on a four wheeler. We had to travel the length of the lake to get to our favorite crappie hole. We got to the right area and started punching holes. After moving from hole to hole we found some fish showing up on the Vex. It was lit up like a Christmas tree. We were soon rewarded with several nice crappie. They are not huge in this lake but good eaters. We were able to get our limits and get off the lake just at dark. With the warm weather coming, it will be difficult to get to this area until it freezes up again.

They look like they will eat just fine, nice job on the specks

Did they have a favorite color or presentation?

We used small green glow jigs with very small crappie minnows.
Is was a blast watching them come up to the jig but they weren’t real aggressive. It was a waiting game and we had to let them have it a few seconds before we could set the hook. We caught some smaller ones that went back to grow up. We were the only ones on the lake which is fine by us.
