Just wanted to stir up some discussion on what people’s go to lure for crappies. My favorite is a sinlge hook Northland minnow with plastic on it. Color preference is pink or red.

I’m talking summer now…..When fishing in northern Minnesota or on the River, I go with an 1/8 ounce jig, either fire orange or chartreuse, with either a yellow, white, or chartreuse 1 1/2 ” twister tail (or other similar plastics) (I just discovered the smaller GULP tails) down here, off the river or in low current spots, I have gone to 1/16 or smaller ice fishing jigs with great results. In South Dakota, we caught nice crappies on the larger jigs, fishing for walleye. I have caught pound+ crappies on the slender spoons and Gapen spoons as big as 1/4 ounce. For ice fishing I have used the same colors, but in the smaller ice fishing sizes.

Just curious……last year, we had better luck some days with the plain hook with minnow or wax worms than with the ice jigs. Has anyone had the same experience this year?

Nuclear ant or ratso. Colors vary depending how active the fish are, and water clarity.
