Spent 3 days fishing and camping on Rainy Lake last weekend. We stayed at a very nice campsite in Lost Bay and had great weather (with the exception of some heavy rain Thursday night). This was only my second trip to Rainy and I am still trying to figure out where to go (every place you see looks like a good place to fish). We did some jigging but mostly pulled bottom bouncer/spinner combo with either leeches or crawlers. The fish did not seem to favor one or the other. Speed was mostly .8 to .12. The fishing was not fast and furious but we caught enough to eat each night plus some slot fish and all 3 guys brought home a limit. The fish seemed to be deeper than last year, the majority of the fish we caught were between 30 and 38 feet. It seemed if we were in less than 28 feet we did not mark any fish. Aonther observation was that we would catch 2 to 4 fish in an area where we marked a lot of fish and then they would just disappear and we would move on. We ate like Kings (nothing beats surf and turf shore lunch of Walleye and Vension Loins along with some fried potates and a couple of cold beverages). Had a good time and already looking forward to next year.
