I caught several “crooked” saugers while on pool 4 last month. You really have to wonder what is going on….

Must be the Nuclear plant….. KIDDING! But I have caught a few saugers like that in the past few years… Any fisheries biologists around the site?

Only place I have seen them is on river systems mainly the Miss, I would like to think its from some kind of trama but even still if theres no fish in the box that one wont go there either

Ive caught quite a few of them over the past year. Does that big hump mean more meat I talked to a dnr official and he believed its a genetic flaw. Kind of like the hunch back of notre dame.

I think they were grabbed by a bird and got away when they were young. I’ve seen some bass looking like that, too.

I’d bet 100:1 it is genetics and not trauma. I’d imagine any injury that would bend them up like that would be lethal. Plus, sounds like there is a lot of them out there. That’s a lot of fish escaping mortality from a event like that.

Anyway, I as I read the replies, I became more curious if there might actually be some advantage for a fish with this mutation. I can’t imagine it would be anything but a detriment, but then I wonder why so many are being caught.

Trauma, had a DNR officer tell us that this was caused from a couple of different things eggs were laid to shallow & waves crashed on them after they were fertilized or nest was raided (after being fertilized) by another species of fish egg sack got damaged, but survived!! I really don’t know s%*t, just what we were told. thought I’d pass it on??
