Well fellas, it’s been nice knowing you…
I’m getting married next summer, 2015, and starting to look into honeymoon locations. I lucked out big time and she enjoys spending time on the water. We are looking for a resort with good fishing (walleye and bass) not very big, northern MN, WI, or maybe into Canada but not to far. The area needs to have lots of things to do besides fishing such as golf course, great dining, hiking, shopping, spa, etc. Can’t be a huge lake b/c my boat is only a 16 footer with 40hp. Any ideas?

My wife and I had our honeymoon at Lake Okoboji in Iowa.

Boat dock parking for dining, shopping, and some pretty good multi species fishing. Walleyes, bass, muskies, and various panfish. Pretty cool place, even if it is in Iowa…

    That’s a good one.
Recently I’ve been looking at some rental by owner type cabins for the family, and there are a ton of options for what would be fit for a honeymoon. Real nice insides, and everything is private, dock, lakeshore, fire pit, perfect for any babymak….I mean romance. Lots of options for lakes too with many on smaller ones. I have a 14′ so that was a concern of mine as well, just open the DNR lakefinder to make sure the lake does have some good fish in it before making reservations though. Good luck, but seriously your getting married, Good Luck.

    Good day Tim,
Is this a late April fools Joke??
If not, at least she likes water,
So not sure on your budget, but there are many places in Brainerd and more than enough to do.
PM me and I can give you a couple names of resort people that are my clients.
    Good luck!!

Gunflint Lodge north of Grand Marais. They have good small mouth bass, northern and lake trout fishing right at the lodge. A 10 minute drive and you are at Saganaga for awesome walleye action. They also have guides. Horse Back riding, great dining, hiking and naturalist activities. They also have a zip line canopy tour. My wife and I stayed in a romanitc cabin for our honey moon. Right on the water very nice and friendly staff.

Do a Tour of the Mississippi Pool 3-7 and all the River Towns, but don’t forget Evert’s.

I got married last July and we did our honeymoon in Bayfield Wisconsin in the Apostle Islands. Beautiful scenery, golf courses, kayaking the sea caves, good restaurants, and of course great fishing in the islands, accessible with a small boat too!

How about something near Ely? There are fairly cheap, (secluded)cabins for rent, great restaurants and shops in town and not, too, far away is a golf course made from a strip mine. Beautiful and difficult to play. Then there’s the golf course at the casino near Tower. Lots of smaller lakes filled with smallmouth, walleyes, northerns and even ski’s and lake trout.

Gull or the Crosslake chain. Always fun to putt around the lake looking at gigantic “cabins” that I’ll never afford.

Check us out here at Timber Trail Lodge, 16 footers are the most common size boat on the chain of lakes accessible from our docks. Cabins come with personal dock space, so you only have to launch the boat once while you’re here. There are dozens of hiking trails within a half hour’s drive, several waterfalls to view as well as some Pictographs guessed to be over 500 years old viewed easily by just a short day trip into the boundary waters. There are several Golf courses nearby, the one at Fortune Bay Casino is a beautiful course. There are several shops and boutiques in town for shopping and 2 spas… And the food is awesome!
As far as fishing goes, the chain has an awesome walleye, smallmouth, and pike fishery for both trophy and eater size fish. We’ll mark maps with locations to target for each species or set you up with a guide if you choose.
