I have a 97 Evinrude 115 which I believe is very similar and it has been a great motor.

I have a 96 115 Johnson. I’ve had it for about 10 years. It has been flawless. Other than taking out the lower unit on LOW about 8 years ago. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another Johnson.

Wish I could trade in the black POS I have on my pontoon for another brand.

Find out if it was one of the Ficht models if it is I would not buy or take if it was free. If its carbed normal 115 should be a good motor. Ex 1999 115 Ficht owner 200 hours rebuilt twice plus 2 ECM and 1 power supply And timing sensors and starter.

Whiskerkev has a small white Johnson. He seems to enjoy it. Might be newer than that one though.

Ha ha very funny. Mine is a 2003 30 horse. I’ve tortured a few mercs to death but find my Johnson 30 which is a Bombardier to be darn near bulletproof. Funny thing is the starter works all the time on my motor which can’t be said for John’s less than 4 year old Etec. Get the motor tested for compression and see if it was an oil injected model. Those are prone to very expensive repairs but can be fixed easily before they go by mixing your gas in your gas tank.

it will be on the motor side where the engine mounts to the transom.

Evinrude did have issues with the early VRO oiling but later models were trouble free. Had a 1982 60 HP Evinrude once the VRO pump was updated ran for ever and never had an issue with it. Sold the boat and still running to this day.

If it is a carbed motor it will suck more gas then a newer DI motor, and more cold blooded.
