what is that thing?!
Almost looks like a Green Sunfish/Pumpkinseed Hybrid.
June 23, 2011 at 12:23 pm #975562Nish fish Matt.
The lake you and I use to fish while you were in college is giving up those dandy gills we use to catch.

WOW. A true monster.
Looks like a pumpkin to me.
Yeah, I don’t think it is. The MN state Pupmkinseed is only 1 pound 6 ounces.June 23, 2011 at 1:35 pm #975588Quote:

Really? Here’s a pumpkinseed for comparison. That one has no orange on the gill flap.Vertical bars, black gill flap, small mouth–all points to bluegill to me
June 23, 2011 at 1:54 pm #975598I would go along with the bluegill due to it’s size.
It would shatter the state record for many of the others.
Maybe some sort of hybrid also.
June 23, 2011 at 2:06 pm #975601I got to get up to my sisters cabin. The panfish, while not that huge, are all big. Too bad it is such a rarity these days. At least it seems pretty rare unless you go a long ways.

Any gill that I would weigh, rather than tape, is closing in on 2lbs. Chris, have him take you there and prove it!

jrholland93Posts: 59June 24, 2011 at 11:52 pm #976171That’s a beauty, MJ5! Nice hybrid bluegill/pumpkin there. Hybrids sure do grow!
June 26, 2011 at 2:59 am #976297Breuer is right on the money… it’s a hybrid… I thought it was a pumpkin but not quite…
And just for the record, it weighed in at 1 pound 15 ounces and measured 11 7/8 inches… so maybe not “quite” 2 pounds there Wallace
And yes, it’s still swimming
