Reading (interpreting?) depth finder images

Does anyone know of a DVD/video that shows real images from a depth finder screen and then gives lessons on how to interpret what you are seeing? I am looking for generalities not a ” how to set up and use your new (insert depth finder brand/model here)” What I am looking for, is how do I know wether I am looking at a rock, tree, weeds… you get the idea! I know that the darker/more solid the line, the harder the surface, but I would like to refine it even further. I would like to get a visual (in my mind) of the area of water/bottom surrounding my boat that I am looking at. If my transducer is mounted on my transom, am I looking at images directly beneath me or what I have just past over?
I saw in a magazine I read recently where Doc Sampson had a DVD but don’t remember where to order it. I would also like to know if the information is more “brand specific” (ie Lowrance)or would be helpful for all units.

    Thanks for any info!
