Looking into buying a new puddle jumping motor (6-10 hp). Any recommendations? Yamaha,Merc,Honda, etc.? Don’t want to make this a “Ford vs. Chev” debate. Just want to get a little insight. The ol’ 77 9.8hp Merc is gettin’ a little tired. Too many stumps n’ rocks.

They’re all good ! I run a 9.9 mariner with great results, but I also have a buddy who runs a Honda that purrs like a kitty cat. Like Ford or Chevy, you have to get one that isn’t a lemon

I would get a 4stroke for sure. I have a 15 and it will let me idle around all day long. Trolls down to 1.5 to 1.8 mph.

I have a Honda 9.9. and like was said above it purrs like a kitten. That thing is so quiet that even when at full throttle you can still have a conversation on the boat without having to rise your voice. At idle speeds it is so quiet I dont even hear it most of the time.
