Trolling Motor Questions

    Looking at putting on a transom trolling motor on my 17 foot tiller. What speeds can I expect with an 80 pound 24 Volt system? I think I can only get 1.8 – 2.0 with my 55 pound bow TM.

    Finally any one have the traxxis? What are you thoughts? Not sure if I can swing a Vantage.

    Thanks

    Well, to look at it simply you could say:

    F = b*v^2

    where: F is the thrust of your current trolling motor (55lbsf) and v is the velocity you obtain with the trolling motor. b is the viscous coeficient of friction of your boat.

    So:

    55 = b * (2.0)^2

    Solve for b:

    b = 55/4 or ~13.75

    So with the new trolling motor you have:

    80 = 13.75 * v^2

    Solve for v:

    v^2 = 80/13.75

    v = (80/13.75)^0.5

    v ~= 2.4 MPH

    That is what I was going to say as well but he beat me to it.

    If you can’t swing it for a vantage yet then wait until you can! Worth the wait!

    I was afraid of that answer. The wife is going to kill me.

    Keep looking on Craigslist for a deal on a used Vantage, and do not be afraid to make an offer, I found one up in Park Rapids that was 2 years old for $650.00. Works like a charm.
