Had a great night. After catching a meal’s worth of pig bluegills with my dad, nephew, and son, we dropped the old man off and went back to start the real fishing. Just before dark the run was on and we got 5 cats before 10:00pm, and my son lost a nice one in the wood. We thought of moving when it slowed down, but we were having enough fun and stuck it out. Right around 11:00 my end pole starts the slow heave toward the water and I set into my first big cat in what seems like forever. Anyways, it fought like a horse and refused to come up from the bottom when it was near the boat. Took a few runs when it should have been worn out – that’s when I knew it wasn’t just a big one – it was special.

Finally hauled it in and got some crappy pictures taken. I had a loaner camera since I dropped and broke mine last weekend. Never buy a Polaroid digital camera. Kills me that the pics are so bad. I’ll try to clean up some of the others but they were a huge disappointment.

I still remember being in awe of the size, though. This thing was heavy.

56 pounds heavy, to be exact.
