Open water fishing has finally arrived here in the Brainerd/Nisswa area. Now the search begins for those scrappy crappies and sunfish. What a blast! So far anglers are catching a few bass and sunfish in the channel areas and every now and then a crappie shows up. As the water warms this week we should see plenty of crappies mixed in. The best tactic this month will be to find the warmest water such as little boat canals, small bays, and channel areas between lakes. All species are holding up in the warm water waiting to spawn. Use small jigs and crappie minnows under a small bobber. Also don’t forget the kids. Warm spring afternoons are great for getting the kids in on some fun times. Good luck and have fun.
