I sure do. I used to like them more than fresh cut. But not anymore after fiddling with the oil over and over again all these years. Now I cant stand them and rarely go to Mickey D’s because of it. Tried it today and couldn’t even finish them. Same with anything they fry including McNuggets and fish fillet thought I still like them.
I read they have been losing market share in the last couple of years. Maybe they should remember what got them there in the first place and emphasize good tasting food over bad tasting but slightly healthier food. Let us make the choice as to whether or not we want to eat it.

I second that, we used to go there just for the fries now the only time I go is if my 4 year old wants some nuggets. Now I’d rather go to chipotle and get a tasty burrito then eat there. Spend a few dollars more and get something that tastes good VS cheap with only has half a slice of cheese and 97 pickles on it.

I recall it was in the late ’80’s when some group got on McD’s for using animal fat to fry their french frys.

No one could compete with the flavor of their french fry’s.

McD’s responded along with all the other FF restaurants by switching over to the more expensive vegetable oil. No one like the flavor compared to animal fat. (No I don’t know what “animal”)

At some point McD’s quietly switched back, then was busted just a few years ago.

Now it is what it is.

I remember the big switch many years ago and I still liked them but there must have been others because they are not even similar any longer.
BTW I worked there as a young teen before any of the changes and they were using tasty vegetable oil then. I used to fill the fryers and even filter the oil. It came in big square boxes labeled vegetable oil.

X2. They weren’t the best french fries, but they do bring back fun memories of being in high school and not being able to afford much else for lunch. Man, I haven’t had McD’s in years, and I definitely don’t miss it. The Fireside Lounge in West St. Paul on Robert has excellent fries. They taste homemade!

If we are talking straight up FAST FOOD, like with a drive through, cheap, etc., the best fries are at White Castle. Those crinkle fries hot out of the fryer with lots of salt can’t be beat.

I’ll second Desperado’s 5 Guys call. McD’s were good, but they are mashed, mixed and shaped. 5 Guys uses straight up potatoes.

The Fireside used to have a picture of me hanging by the door. Some misunderstanding about a bar fight one night. I was innocent, honest!

There’s something to be said about the trans fat stuff when it comes to taste, The old folks say you can’t make good pie crust without lard and what about bacon grease, as long as you are active and don’t just sit on the couch your body will process it, if health is an issue just don’t eat it where it builds up in your system.
