I'm having trouble catching channels and bullheads in iowa

    Hey, I’m vacationing in iowa, and I have been fishing for catfish almost every day. I haven’t got a single bite. Not even a nibble. I am using 6 lb test with 2 hooks baited with nightcrawlers, and a heavy sinker on both hooks. For channels, I’m using 12 lb test with a sliding sinker and a circle hook baited with chicken liver that’s rapped in gauss to stay on the hook. I usually just cast out into the open for channels and same with bullheads. I can’t seem to catch anything! I am fishing in lakes and rivers.

    Here might be your problem, this time of year depending on conditions including depth and water clarity of where you are they are gonna hunker down in some holes or cover until nightfall. I don’t bother going out till hour before dark or so for cats nowadays if I’m stuck to shore.

    What area of the state and what river Jack?
