FFS is the worst thing to happen to fishing. I won’t use it and won’t teach my kid how to use it.

I haven’t done kayak fishing yet but have thought about it several times and have been eyeing up places to rent and fish the mangroves.

Good idea on the rod holders. My cooler is usually styrofoam as we fly and there is only so much gear I can get on the plane. I’m usually pretty careful on the reels but like I said last year I did ruin one. Luckily it was an inexpensive Pflueger Trion.

Totally agree with you Steve on reel size. The Spinfisher 4500 is what came in the mail. I put 20 lb power pro on it and will change leaders as needed. Can’t wait to get back down there.

The craziest part to me is that people are OK living with the lie their whole life. I would get ZERO enjoyment out of having a record fish that was a fraud.

Seen plenty of issues with Clam. But never had a problem with Otter.

All good info. I will keep the Saltist on my radar. I haven’t had a reel problem until last year. I found this cool spot you could walk out maybe 80 yards or so on rock. But depending on tides would determine how much rock and at high tide it was about ankle deep water with only small amounts of rock exposed to set gear. From there you could wade out until about your waist and access some deeper water. Caught some decent fish and it was just awesome being in the ocean like that while fishing. But like I said my reel did take a couple dunks under while handling fish, etc.

I like that white Ranger with the white motor! Hard to find that combo around here.

Unfortunately (for me) the Florida forecast is a solid 10 plus degrees below normal. Coolest winter they’ve had down there in 20 some years.

Goodwill won’t take them. Marketplace C List or scrap them.

Nice way to end before the all-star break. 4 game win streak. At one point they were up by 30 points (in the 1st quarter!) last night in Portland. Glad they stayed focused and finished them off. Still can’t believe they are on top the West.

I just went from an 1850 Crestliner Sportfish to an 1850 Ranger Reata. Both are awesome boats for family plus serious fishing.

Good work thanks for reporting back. It’s really fun to catch new species and try new things.

    Thanks guys.

TillR: not looking to spend a ton right now. I mainly wade for snapper and occasionally hook a small shark or Jack. I’m sure once I start spending whole winters down there I’ll be upgrading and expanding.

Sounds like the Spinfish is a good choice for now. Found one on sale for $120

Heading to the FL Keys soon. Will be fishing a variety of in shore and off shore.

Early spring plan to hit the trout streams with my kids.

Summer will be a mix of Mille Lacs, Leech, and family cabins. Would love to do another fly-in Canada trip this year but not sure if I can pull that off.

Hey thanks Tom that is great feedback. I think I’ll give it a try. I have been using Pfluegers so far (which are great reels too) But after last year dunking one of the reels while wade fishing the whole thing seized up. That was after rinsing it right away with fresh water too. Some salt must have gotten inside and so that’s why I’m looking for a sealed one this time around.

But there are plenty of people who will say with a straight face that netting walleyes by the thousands when they are spawning have no ill effect on the population. Makes me sick.

Exactly. Barotrauma, spearing, 2 lines, Mille Lacs regs, PFD requirements, panfish limits, there are plenty of non-controversial fishing topics to discuss devil

Wow this is catching me by surprise this morning. Almost laughed out loud when I read ‘pump the breaks’ and tightened up a one fish allowance. Maybe we can keep 1/2 a fish? crazy

It has been an extremely mild winter. My seasonal affect disorder has been kept mostly in check. But, I’m still ready for longer days and more sun.

February is my least favorite month of the whole year.

^Even the Clippers are sickening with their re-tread all stars. Leonard, George, Harden, Westbrook, etc. Hope they implode with personality issues.

Impressive win last night against the Clippers who were one of the hottest teams in the league. And that was after beating the Bucks last week, too waytogo

Not usually too critical of halftime shows but that one sucked. Worst one in a number of years IMO.

I don’t really care who wins, but put me in the group who wouldn’t bet against Mahomes. Like him or not he is an elite QB that will probably be the only guy to rival Brady in terms of legacy.

Funny how many are put off by Taylor Swift. Who really cares? It’s entertainment after all. Now if she would come down out of her suite during halftime and join the show that would be something!

I got confused by the date too. But I haven’t seen a Gophers BB game yet this year. I’ll have to find an upcoming one to watch.

Lindy, just get a slider mount for the trolling mtr. The Skeeters come with them. Really simple on the water, just pull one pin on the side and slide it out. Easy peazy. Saves room in the garage also.

I may just end up doing that Ed. It’s actually already somewhat on a sliding mount. Has two spots for the pin to go. But normally I use a pad lock because the boat gets left up north. And I have to undo the TM stabilizer each time too. Not the end of the world just a couple extra steps.

Yeah your backing in to far. What make and year. It happened on my 619 a couple times on steep ramps. It has not happened on my on my 620 (different hull) at same ramp. I have never tried silicone.
I thought about replacing that roller but never did.
It was more the truck driver going to fast than anything.
Never happened when I was driving.

It’s a Reata 1850 and 2014. Single axle Ranger Trail trailer. The ramp I use most is pretty steep, but it will not come off the bunks until the whole boat is pretty much floating and then the bow drops down.

We got some rain, but most missed us to the west and north west. Same pattern as all of last year.

Rip I have a new to-me Ranger as of last year. I can load it fine but launching I have hit the trolling motor on the front roller as you mention.

This tells me maybe I’ve backed it in too far, thus the bow drops. But if I don’t then it will not come off the bunks.

Only thing I could figure out towards the end of last year was pull the locking pin on the trolling motor and slide the motor back. But I’d rather not have to do that.

It’s either that or try the silicone spray.

    Any thoughts?

Same age 62 as my Dad when he passed. Too young. Was almost hoping to hear it was an OD or something self induced or a crash of some sort. But read it was stomach cancer never like hearing that from someone his age. Rest easy man, wish I coulda see him play. But will remember the music.
