Anybody get out and fish it this weekend? The satellite photos show a lot of ice building and I have to imagine with the calm and cold weather the next few days ice conditions should be good out there. Where is the best place to park to walk on the lake?

I was out yesterday. There is some parking on 21 ave, turn right twords the lake. The ice was sketchy. Five inches on the new stuff but it’s moving and booming! The seam from the new ice to the old ice is open water and you have to look for a good spot to cross . I fought three Lakers but did not get them top side. I had a school of herring come through that was neat to see through the ice.

I have been trying to plan a trip up there for 3 years now. Any locals on here that could give an opinion on if this ice will hold until the weekend? Looks like calm winds and steady temps?
    Thanks for any advice.

Did you make it out yesterday? If so, is it a bad omen to the rest of us that you didn’t give an update…aka did you float away?

Hello everyone! I am a Duluth resident & have an up to date ice report! Went out yesterday 2/16 & there is around 20-50 yards of sketchy ice/ice heave – this heave has been there longest so I assume it’s at least 7”+ in thickness.

There is a defined line where the new ice begins forming, yesterday I was measuring anywhere from 6”-7” of ice out on the new stuff. Ice is frozen all the way up to Lester Park, which I’ve heard rarely happens – these next few days will be a prestige opportunity to get out there!

Nice day on the big lake. I finally figured out the herring. A local told me ‘you gota make them mad. The slender spoon jigged violently did the job. Lots of people out enjoying what is probably the last weekend.

Is this out of the harbor? Is there any safe ice up the north shore? Was hoping with the cold weather we might have a slight window to fish lakers.

My wife and I were up there yesterday. Kitchi Gammi had plenty of parking and safe ice

How do you prepare the herring? Do you pickle it?
