If you settle on Garmin, get the Vista. 24MB as against 8MB for the Legend.
In my opinion, I would go with the Magellan just for ergonomic reasons. I don’t like where the “mouse pointer” is on the garmin. I’m right handed, so my thumb is constantly over the screen when trying to flip through the menus. The Magellan has a decent base map, Garmin’s has slightly more detail. Go to your local sporting goods store and play with them both. Mess around with the menus, mark a waypoint, etc. That’s how I would decide, either way, they are both great products. I’ve just got to talk Garmin into putting their buttons on the bottom of the units.
I have a Garmin Etrex Legend. Depending on what you are going to use it for, I would say 8mb would be enough memory. I haven’t downloaded anything yet, so I can’t say for sure. I will say that I have had great luck with their customer service dept.
