Went with a buddy to Bussey Lake on Wednesday and had about 4 to 5 inches of ice. Got there about 7 am. Put out 4 tip ups, 2 with live shiners, and 2 with dead herring. Then set up tent and fished the deeper cuts over by the island. Put the camera down and saw a ton of fish, but no matter what you threw at them, they would just stop, stare and eventually swim off. Weeds were still high, due to the amount of sunlight they have been given this year, but are just starting to decompose giving the water a real murky color. We could only see about 1 1/2 feet with the camera. The only time we would see numbers of fish swim in, were when other fisherman would walk by our tent and drill holes in another area spooking fish out of the weeds sending them in our direction. But just like everywhere else I’ve been this year, a lot of lookers but not many takers. Stayed until 2 pm and didn’t even get one flag tripped on the tip ups either. We didn’t even see a northern on the camera, which is highly rare for that backwater. Extreme patience and Good Luck to those venturing out on Bussey Lake this week.
