Cockatiel Laying an egg

I have had a female cockatiel for the past 4 years or so and it layed one egg in the past and is going to again soon. Last time I took the egg away after a week or so and she acted funny for the next couple weeks (no whistling, chirping, etc.). I imagine it was from the stress of losing her egg…is there a better thing I can do besides taking the egg away?

What is your intention? Let it hatch and I’ll by the chick.

Tiels are notorious for laying eggs even without a Male present. You’re doing the correct thing by removing the eggs. If she lays more than 8 or 10 eggs multiple times during the year, she could be an excessive layer which could cause calcium loss. If she’s only laying a couple, don’t worry. Make sure that she has a cuddle bone, or calcium block available. The shorter daylight hours may also be causing her to act differently.
