Definetly fake. No way can mille lacs hold a pike that big.
Ok just kidding. In spirit of the season, I thought I’d start off the bashing.
Sweet fish. I’m jealous.
February 7, 2014 at 6:39 pm #1386924I’d like to know what rig was used and how long the fight lasted. Had to be a blast!

Probably a rattle reel with a lucky hook placement if I had to guess.

I heard it was a rattle reel with a number 6 red hook twisted in pliers so 30% of the gold shows.

PS: To all the IDO’rs, yes, I personally know Dave. Sent him a link.
February 7, 2014 at 9:13 pm #1386894Northerns that big certainly exist in Mille Lacs! That is a beautiful fish. I lost one boat side this year that I thought was in the mid to upper 40’s. My 30′ Tail Dancer looked like a Shad Rap in it’s gigantic mouth. That is a true monster! Congrats!

I wonder where the small walleyes are going ? That is not even cloes to resembling “short” … Petey, that 40″ being held in the pic above looks small comparably…. congrats to the kiddo !
You are probably right. I still don’t think it looks 48″.

Did I say a number 6? I meant a number 4. lol

that fish dwarfs the fish you are holding, maybe not dwarf, but it is clearly larger. two years ago I got a 44 incher trolling lead for walleyes, so a 48 incher is not out of line for mille lacs. if you ate all the walleyes in the lake, you would be big and fat too. legit if you ask meFebruary 8, 2014 at 9:41 pm #1387123you are probably right. Here’s a 42 1/2″ I still don’t think it’s 48″.
February 9, 2014 at 2:25 pm #1387220Just look at the head and tails… the ones you posted, look like around 38-40′ in comparison, to the 48″ (the one in the sled next to the auger looks smaller than the 40″)
Derek HansonPosts: 592February 9, 2014 at 10:35 pm #1387343That fish is a tank. I don’t doubt that it might be a 48″. I caught and released a legit 46″ pike in the summer of 2008. My buddy caught and released a 42.5″ in the winter of 2009. Kind of sad to see these pigs being kept. Guys should be keeping their limits of the hammer handle pike and releasing the big fish. The hammer handle pike are in huge numbers right now and they do much more damage to the fishery.
February 10, 2014 at 8:25 am #1387436Very nice pike. Not surprised to see it from mille lacs. Ive caught one in the mid 40s and another low 40″ pike from there. Both night trolling for walleyes. That had to have been a very excited fishing house to see that head come in the hole.
lancewPosts: 65February 16, 2014 at 8:09 pm #1389166Very well said Baby Mallard. I wish they’d do catch and release on all northerns over 30, and unlimited under 30″.
