The deadline to apply is tomorrow, Aug 18, for the Archery Deer Hunt at Camp Ripley. There will be one 3 day hunt, Oct 27-29. There will be 2500 permits given out. Guessing they will fill this out… with only 2500 permits.

I assume with the new regulation allowing crossbows, there will be more applicants for special “archery” hunts like this?
I have lived within 1 hr of Ripley the last 25 years. I never really thought about applying. In reading about the hunt, it’s a lot of people with a low success rate. If you have to camp out to be first in line or wait 2-3 hours to get in, it’s not for me.
It would be a lot better if they could figure out a way to to more weekends with less people. Could become a pretty unique opportunity.
I believe it will fill out. In the past there was 2 hunts, 2500 each and they always filled out… until the deer numbers went way down… then they had over the counter tags left. With it now a one 3 day hunt and 2500 tags and as mentioned, crossbow hunters added, it should fill up. The reason it used to have a low success rate was because you used to have to use your regular tag in there, no bonus doe tags allowed, plus most were hunting for that monster… they are in there. 
I applied. The group I applied with has shot a few dandys out there. None have gone home with low success and this was one from 2 years ago.

Looks like all who applied were accepted and there’s 254 more spots for sale.
