Rick made a stop to fish with me before his annual trip to Canada. This was one of 5 fish we had hooked that day!
It’s been a little while since my last report and we’ve been catching muskies using several different techniques. It’s been a tricky year in the sense that we really haven’t had a pattern last for any extended period of time without having to tweek some part of the equation. Whether that be the lure presentation, timing, or location the fish have kept us on our toes. It’s been a fun summer though and I’ve been lucky to fish with some really great clients that have been helping me get the job done.
Matt holds a nice metro fish that came off a nice piece of midlake structure.
As we move into late summer the open water nomads that are chasing bait around the open basins start to push up onto main lake structure a little more. We are finding fish on main lake points, deep weed edges and humps.
These fish seem to be using this structure to their advantage as ambush points during high percentage feeding windows. Finding deep weeds has been a major bonus in the past week as fish are starting to be found much more regularly in vegetation.

We are catching many fish on Bulldawgs still and also on Musky Innovations new Ripping Dawgs that will be available next season. Slow rolled bucktails and spinnerbaits have been showing up on the score sheet a little more often in the past week or two. I have actually been casting Musky Mayhem’s Trolling Girl bucktails a bit and scoring some nice fish on them. They get down nicely with their heavier build.

Looking forward I am very excited for what early fall should bring. We didn’t have a real great early fall bite last year due to the heat wave at the end of summer but I feel like the table is set for a good bucktail bite in 2014. As the water temps start to cool down the action should only heat up!
