Fishing Report – Pasha Lake Region (06-06-2010)

We have cracked the code!

The early spring and extreme weather really threw us for a loop for the opener this year, but as always, with a little dedication, patience and perseverance, we cracked the walleye code! Since doing so, it’s been “game on” for walleye anglers coming here from as far away as West Virginia, Florida, Texas, Ohio and of course the upper Midwest.

One of the most memorable days of guiding last week found us on a rather large lake with a significant river system flowing in and out of it. Working our way up the dark stained and narrow waterways, we came across several big rocky reefs. Dawning our crankbaits, we hit the area in full force, landing walleye, after walleye, after walleye, after… well, you get the picture. Everything was in less than 10fow, with many eyes being caught in less than 5fow.

Having brought guests to over 7 different lakes in one 6 day stretch of fishing last week, we found the same shallow pattern repeated in most of the area lakes. Walleye concentrated heavily on emerging weeds and rock shoals that are no doubt attracting huge schools of heavily feeding spring bait fish.

Switching gears a little, one of the highlights of the trip last week was an ATV adventure to one of our trophy pike lakes. After packing up the 4 wheeler with our gear and rods, we headed deep into the Canadian bush in a game of cat and mouse with huge gators.

The morning started out a little slow as we hit most of my traditional hot spots and turned up little to nothing. Then, going back to the basics, we started to venture out in search of feeding pike. With the wind at our face, we found just that, as we trolled into the downwind side of a significant break adjacent to a shallow, large, weedy flat. In the hours that followed, there wasn’t a trolling pass that didn’t produce us a respectable pike. In all, we landed over 30 pike, with only 2 being under 30”. A memorable day of fishing to say the least. Sometimes the challenge to find fish can be just as rewarding as catching them.

The start of a new week brings new crews that once again will head out in search of action packed fishing. And with the variety and the amount of lakes the Pasha Lake Region of Ontario is known for, they are sure to find it!

Until next time.

One thing I should mention is that up until about 48 hours ago, we didn’t have June accommodations available. Now, with two last minute cancellations, we have 6 and 4 person accommodations. If you are looking for a last minute trip to Canada at a generous discount, pm me and I can give you the details on a Fishing Package that includes cabin rental, boat & motor rental, bait, fuel and access to our boat caches.
