Big Green Lake , Wisconsin Shore fishing Walleyes

Big Green Lake is located south west of Winnebago and northeast of Madison , Wi., and only a short distance from Lake Puckaway. Shore fishing on Big Green Lake in Wisconsin in october and till freeze up can be some fast action. Some years the lake does not freeze up till after the new year comes in and the walleyes still are shallow and chasing bait fish up tight to shore.

For rods we are using 7 foot St. Croix in the medium and medium lights for tossing the husky jerks out from shore. The 7 footers help get the lighter baits out to the edge of the deeper water. The crank bait of chose is the husky jerk in the number 8 and all the way up to the number 12,s when the north winds are blowing in our face all night. Some nights the bigger the bait , the better the bite . These fish are coming into as shallow as 2 feet of water and they are on the feed bag for the winter. Also for baits we are using rattle traps with the blue and silver doing the best in various sizes. The line we are using is fireline in 8 pound test and 3 pound dia. With these big baits we can cast a country mile with the fireline.

Tactics for presentation are cast out and reel about 5 cranks fast to get your husky down to the bottom and just reel in slow with suttle jerks just to help to feel the bottom some times. Doing this will get a rock crushing hit from these walleyes. We were just reeling in a steady faster crank speed and they were just ticking the bait with no results. The slower presentation was the key for the mourning.

We also got a few northerns and even some carp that had the treble in their mouth. Sometimes you could feel the baits bump some small bait fish as you reeled in . On sunny days you can see perch and gills in the rocks on shore.
