Joe *dirt* Chadwick

Joe Chadwick called me at about 4pm tonight. He wanted to go catch some more brooders at Castle Rock Creek in Grant County. It is about 40 minutes south of us so I was reluctant to go. He guilted me in to it. He said with the season ending here on Wednesday it might be out last chance.

The photo above is from the last days of season in 2008. I guess we are going to make a tradition on going there. Lots of people think of Catch & Release ONLY when they think of Castle Rock. That is not 100 percent true. A good portion of Castle Rock is Catch and Keep and night crawlers are allowed.

I swear Joe could catch a trout in a mud puddle in the middle of main street. 9 out of 10 of the trout in Castle Rock are released brooders. They are big fish that have been milked for years at the hatchery and are dropped off in Castle Rock Creek to live out the rest of their lives.

I left my rod in the car and and we went out for our last HURRAY at Castle Rock Creek for 2009. I had kept my 12 trout for the year already and decided I wasn’t harvesting any more in 2009. Joe has NOT lost his touch. We were there 45 minutes and were headed home with 2 for Joe’s smoker.
